We are entrepreneurs with expertise in asset protection for hedge fund managers. Members of the team have founded and run their own hedge funds and CTAs, including a multi-billion dollar FoHF. Together, the management team has served in nearly every capacity required to run a hedge fund – President, CEO, COO, CFO, CCO, PM and Risk Manager. Highly specialized talent includes the former Head of Tax Law at Deloitte in Bermuda and General Counsel of a Bermuda-based NYSE-listed reinsurer.
Chairman & Founder
Joseph Taussig is Chairman of the Company, founder of the StatSure Group of Companies and the largest shareholder of Knowledge Re Holdings LLC, the sole owner of the StatSure Group. He also serves as the Chairman of each company with in the Group. Prior to founding the StatSure Group, Mr. Taussig was the founder of Multi-Strat Holdings Ltd., which seeds new reinsurers in partnership with a number of asset managers, who manage all of the investable assets of their particular reinsurer.
Mr. Taussig has acted as a merchant banker for numerous financial services startups, divestitures, and acquisitions since 1990. Most of the capital for some of these companies has been provided by the hedge fund industry or hedge fund investors and many of the startups have invested their assets in asset strategies, managed by hedge fund managers. The best known of these companies is Greenlight Capital Re, which has more than $2 billion of assets which are managed by David Einhorn and is publicly traded on NASDAQ (symbol – GLRE).
Prior to 1990, Mr. Taussig took significant stock, option, and warrant positions in troubled companies and usually served as the CEO or COO in an effort to turn them around. Better-known companies included United Press International, Data Broadcasting (now known as Interactive Data and recently sold for more than $3 billion), Cabletek (acquired by First Data Resources, then a subsidiary of American Express), and Instinet, which was bought by Reuters.
Following graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1966, Mr. Taussig was commissioned in the U.S. Marine Corps and attained the rank of Captain. He served in Viet Nam as a patrol leader with the First Force Reconnaissance Company and was the Commanding Officer of Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, Fifth Marines in Hue City during the Tet Offensive. He earned an MBA from Harvard University in 1972 and taught Corporate Finance in the MBA program at the University of Southern California from 1973-1977.
Ken McCord is the President of StatSure Financial. He is a Director and Chief Financial Officer of each company within the StatSure Group and a shareholder of Knowledge Re Holdings Ltd.
Mr. McCord is an accomplished investment executive with significant experience in both corporate and entrepreneurial environments. Most recently, Mr. McCord was President, Portfolio Manager and co-founder of KFL Capital Management, a hedge fund management company with expertise in big data, machine learning and predictive modeling. Prior to the establishment of KFL, Mr. McCord was the President of Horizons ETFs, one of Canada’s leading providers of exchange traded funds. Prior to his role at Horizons ETFs, Mr. McCord was the President, CEO and co-founder of Webb Asset Management, a hedge fund manager with expertise in quantitative, long/short equity strategies. Mr. McCord has also held senior roles with First Asset Management, Invesco Canada and TD Asset Management.
Mr. McCord is a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo (B.A.) and of Queen’s University in Kingston (M.B.A.). He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation from the CFA Institute.
Chief Operating Officer
Esther E. Goodman is the Chief Operating Officer of StatSure Financial, the Program Manager of the Company. She is a shareholder of Knowledge Re Holdings, Ltd. and serves as Secretary and Director of each company within the StatSure Group.
Ms. Goodman has been involved in the alternative investment industry for more than 30 years. She is a co- Founder and Managing Director of Conyers Consulting Group, LLC, which consults to hedge fund managers and CTAs, with a focus on emerging managers. The firm also provides non-executive directorship services to hedge fund managers and funds; and provides outsourced COO and CCO services to alternative investment managers and small broker dealers.
From July-1986 to April-2014, Ms. Goodman was the Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of The Kenmar Group (which became The Kenmar Olympia Group in April-2012), where she led the development and management of Kenmar’s proprietary managed account platform; served as Chief Compliance Officer of the firm’s broker dealer and directed compliance for the firm’s registered investment adviser, commodity pool operator and commodity trading advisor entities; was a member of the Investment Committee and served as Chairman of the Operational Risk Committee. Prior to joining The Kenmar Group, Ms. Goodman served as a marketing executive at Commodities Corp. in Princeton, N.J. and was a founder and principal of Westchester Commodity Management, a registered CTA, where she was instrumental in the development of its trading systems and was responsible for running all aspects of the asset management firm.
Ms. Goodman was a Founding Member and Director of the Managed Futures Trade Association from 1987-1991 and a Director of the Managed Futures Association from 1991-1995, both of which were predecessor organizations to the Managed Funds Association (MFA). In 2014, Ms. Goodman received the Lifetime Achievement Award from CTA Expo.
Ms. Goodman is a founder and Board Member of the Stacy Joy Goodman Memorial Foundation, a non-profit charity committed to finding a cure for type 1 diabetes. She has been a National Board Member of the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation, the largest diabetes, cure-based research facility in the world, since 1998. Ms. Goodman graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. degree in Child Psychology.
Marc S. Goodman is a Managing Director of StatSure Financial. Mr. Goodman has been involved in the commodities and alternative investment industries for more than 35 years. From He is a co-Founder and Managing Director of Conyers Consulting Group, LLC, which consults to hedge fund managers and CTAs; provides non-executive directorship services to hedge fund managers and funds; and provides outsourced COO and CCO services to alternative investment managers and small broker dealers. Mr. Goodman serves as an Independent Trustee, a member of the Audit Committee and the Independent Trustees Committee, and Chairman of the Nominating and Governance Committee for Guggenheim Credit Income Fund. He an independent Director and member of the Audit Committee for Electrum Special Acquisition Corporation.
Until April 2014, he was Co-Executive Chairman and Global Co-Chief Investment Officer of the Kenmar Olympia Group. Prior to that Mr. Goodman was the President, Co-Chief Executive Officer, and Co-Chief Investment Officer of The Kenmar Group, a fund of funds manager with peak assets of $4.5 Billion. Prior to co-founding The Kenmar Group in 1983, Mr. Goodman was a Vice President and Director of Pasternak, Baum and Co., Inc., a global dealer of cash commodities.
Mr. Goodman graduated from the Bernard M. Baruch School of Business of the City University of New York with a BBA degree and an MBA in Finance and Investments. He was awarded an Economics and Finance Department Fellowship during his studies. Mr. Goodman is the Chairman of the Board of the Stacy Joy Goodman Memorial Foundation, a non-profit charity committed to finding a cure for juvenile diabetes. Mr. Goodman also serves on the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation’s National Board and Executive Committee, as well as the Foundation’s Northeast Board and its Executive Committee.
Dave Sanderson is a Managing Director of StatSure Financial. Dave began his career as a litigation lawyer at Stikeman, Elliott’s Toronto office. He practiced for 6 years until he began a career in financial services in 1997. Over the course of the last 20 years, Dave has been in sales and management for a global fund manager (Invesco Canada) and in branch management for a bank-owned investment dealer. Dave was a managing director of BMO Nesbitt Burns until 2012 when he left to become President and CEO of KFL Investment Management Inc. and PM at KFL Capital Management Inc. (the predecessor firm of Red Jacket Capital Inc.).
Todd White is a Strategic Advisor to Stature Financial. He has been involved in the reinsurance, asset management, and capital markets for 20 years and is the founder and managing director of Puma Advisors, a boutique consultancy providing corporate finance, structuring and tax services to (re)insurance, asset management and renewable energy markets. Todd got his start in tax advisory services while working with Deloitte where he was responsible for founding and managing the firm’s offshore tax and consulting practice in Bermuda.
Prior to forming Puma Advisors, Mr. White spent seven years as Senior Vice President for Corporate Strategy with the Montpelier Reinsurance Group, where he was responsible for technical aspects of strategic transactions, investments, tax and capital structure. While at Montpelier he also served as founding director for Blue Capital Management, Montpelier’s asset management and capital markets platform, and Paladin Underwriters, a specialist Lloyd market broker.
Prior to Montpelier, Mr. White served as the initial general counsel for the Flagstone Reinsurance group, where he was responsibility for all legal aspects including initial capitalization and launch of a global startup reinsurance franchise, including its IPO and expansion on four continents. While at Flagstone, Mr. White was structured a number of innovative capital markets program, including several reinsurance sidecars, catastrophe bonds and other structured risk products.
Prior to Flagstone, Todd was legal counsel for West End Capital Management, and primary technical advisor to the firm’s $1 billion hedge fund and numerous capital markets ventures. Todd received his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont.
Partner and Managing Director
Scott Allan has over 27 years of experience in the reinsurance/insurance industry. He is a co-founder of the StatSure Group of Companies, a shareholder of the Group’s holding company, Knowledge Re Holdings Ltd., and consults to the Group regarding various opportunities in the Alternative Risk Solutions space for enterprise risk and warranties.
Prior to StatSure, Mr. Allan formed the first International Reinsurance Company in Puerto Rico, Oceanus Re A.I. in 2006, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sciens International Investments and Holdings, S.A. (Sciens). Mr. Allan was also one of the initial investors as well as a director and CEO. In November of 2011, Sceins sold Oceanus Re, A.I. to Spencer Capital Holdings, Ltd. and renamed Oceanus Re, A.I. to Spencer Re, I.I. Mr. Allan, continued his role as Director, CEO and investor of Spencer Captial Holdings, Ltd. (Bermuda). His duties included the oversight of all Investment structures, which were predominately in Hedge Funds Strategies, as well as worked with financial institutions in obtaining letters of credit to secure reserve credit for our cedents. Prior to Spencer Re, Mr. Allan was Assistant Vice President and the head of reinsurance and contingent compensation programs for a subsidiary of Zurich Financial Services. Mr. Allan was responsible for the creation, pricing and managed of these programs. Prior to his role with Zurich Financial Services Mr. Allan held the position for Reinsurance Underwriter for Employers Reinsurance Corporation and underwrote various lines of coverage’s during his tenner.
Mr. Allan is also the founder and CEO of Oceanic International, LLC formed in 2005. Oceanic is a reinsurance/insurance consulting firm working in conjunction with various reinsures and insures providing expertise in Alternative Risk Solutions and Programs for multiple lines of Insurance. Mr. Allan Graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
